that made me really emotional. I wasn't expecting this. So yesterday I delivered a webinar for a group of female business owners from all over the UK and it was fantastic a really really good group, great interaction, loads of questions, and I spent about 90 minutes with them and in that 90 minutes I helped them get clear on their values. We looked at dissolving some fears and I helped them gain clarity on their values. We looked at dissolving some fears and I helped them gain clarity on how they could move forward into a vision for themselves and their business. And in the group I asked what's something that has been inspiring for you and everything that you've done? What's been that common thread that's kind of weaved its way through all of your jobs, your career, your businesses, the whole way through your life? And one of them said I can't say it's been inspiring, but I've never wanted to end up like my parents. And when that lady said it, there was a bit of obvious resentment there and I said, ok, great, are you like them now? And no was the immediate answer and I explained to her and to the group that it's our voids that drive our values, the things that you perceive that we're missing most is what we need to drive ourselves forward, and the thing that you perceive was missing most is what you're trying to fulfill most. The bigger the void, the bigger the value. And I asked her if your parents had given you what you thought you needed, would you be doing what you're doing right now? And no was the answer that came back, but this time it seemed softer and there was a bit of emotion there and I asked again were the things that they didn't give you not exactly what you needed to build your business and design a life that isn't the same as theirs? And there was a bit of silence and there was silence in the group and you could feel it. And then it came back, yeah, but this time there was a bit of tear in her eyes, I think, a realization, maybe a tear of gratitude, and what she said was it was a penny drop moment and everybody in their group felt it. They felt it because they started to connect their own dots and it was an emotional moment for the whole group and everyone felt it because they got a deeper realization of their own values and the things that really make them tick and why they value the things that they value and why they do the things that they do and they create that and they realize that and they make that connection again within your business is powerful.
Speaker 1:And I explained that to the group as they began to move forward. I said when you connect the dots from the voids that have shaped you to the values that you have now and match it to a vision for yourself, moving forward, it's powerful. When you start to set goals in alignment with those values, you'll keep moving forward, you'll be consistent, you'll not procrastinate as much, you'll not sabotage as much, you'll want to keep moving forward. You'll pursue both pain and pleasure, support and challenge in this pursuit Because it has meaning. And a lot of the times people are setting goals that don't have any meaning, don't have any real strong purpose, because they're not linked to their real, true values.
Speaker 1:And in that group yesterday they got a real understanding of what was actually going on underneath the hood a lot of the times that was driving their performance and I explained to that girl who I'd had that conversation with and to the rest of the group is sometimes we look back and think that we didn't get the things that we needed, but if you look at it from that perspective you get everything that you needed. They get you to be the person that you are right now, creating the business you want, creating the life that you want, driving the values that you have so that you can grow and move forward. And sometimes that shift in perspective can open up your heart, like it did in that group yesterday, with a state of emotion and gratitude for what it was instead of what we thought it should have been. And in that, as I said to them, as I said, nothing's ever missing, just in our perception. So when we make that deeper connection with ourselves, when we can see that the voids shape the values, we can now get inspired to create a future vision. And that's how I left it with that group.
Speaker 1:How do we now start to create a future vision? How do you now start to move forward? What are the things that you actually really do value within your business? What are the that really make you tick? What areas can you now start to delegate? What areas can you start to pass off to other people so that you can get on your priority, the thing that actually really makes you and your business grow, and once you can get really, really aligned with that your energy expands, you're more focused, you're more inspired, you want to keep showing up consistently and you want to keep doing it because you love it. And when we can understand that values piece, especially in business, it's such a powerful, powerful tool that can really catapult your growth. I wanted to share that with you because I think it's powerful, because a lot of people that are listening to this podcast are business owners, a lot of people that I work with and coach, and I take every single person through that values piece and sometimes it's like a light bulb moment on that, just before you go, guys, what I want to do is share.
